If your central cooling/heating system is over 10 years old, chances are it's inefficient and near the end of its useful life. Shop wisely for a new system now, before it breaks down during next summer's high heat and humidity.

A new, high-efficiency central cooling system or heat pump will mean lower summer energy costs. You can get big FPL discounts for a new, high-efficiency unit.              (Call us for details)

With FPL's Residential Air Conditioning program, it's easy and smart to buy an efficient air conditioning or heat pump system for your home. You'll save hundreds of dollars on the price of your new system. And the savings will continue for years to come, since a high-efficiency system means lower electric bills month after month. So while a high-efficiency cooling and heating system may cost a little more up front compared to a less efficient system, you'll recover the price difference in a very short time.

FPL wants to help you make the right choice for your budget and home. The worksheet below will help you determine how quickly you'll get back the higher purchase cost of a high-efficiency system through lower electric bills.

You can compare the cost of a high-efficiency system having a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 11.5 or more with the cost of a less efficient, lower-priced system for your home.

To complete this worksheet, you will need the following information:

  • size of your system. A general guideline is that you'll need 12,000 BTUH of air conditioning for every 500 square foot of space in your home. Air conditioning size may also be expressed in tons; one ton of air conditioning equals 12,000 BTUH.

  • type of system being installed; FPL's incentives differ depending on air cooled straight cool-air or air cooled heat pumps.

  • cost and SEER of system being installed

  • cost and SEER of less efficient system (for comparison purposes)

Each home's cooling and heating needs vary considerably with such factors as insulation, landscaping, window treatments and the number of windows, and other conservation measures making your home either more or less energy efficient. We will consider these factors when determining the proper size unit for your residence.
