What do rating
numbers mean?
To help consumers
make informed choices the U.S. government requires an efficiency
rating of all air conditioning and heating equipment. The rating is
meant to reflect the percentage of energy use efficiency. A high
rating indicates high efficiency. there are various names and types
of ratings depending on the type of equipment. Air conditioning
equipment is rated by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency
Rating, or S.E.E.R.
rating. Heat pump equipment is rated by the Heating Seasonal
Performance Factor, or
H.S.P.F.
rating. Gas Furnaces are rated
according to their Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency,
or A.F.U.E.
rating.

Should a
thermostat be set to "auto" or "on" and what's the difference?
When a
thermostat is set to auto, the fan operates only when the
temperature requires it. This is the most used setting; However,
there are advantages to using the "on" setting. First of all, the
air in the house is constantly filtered through the units air
filter. Secondly, the consistently circulating air result in a more
consistent temperature throughout the house.

Can shrubs or
flowers be planted around an outdoor unit?
Yes. However,
we recommend a minimum of 18 inches from the unit. This distance
ensures that there is plenty of air circulation to prevent the unit
from over heating and requiring premature service.

If the outdoor
unit needs replacing, should the indoor unit be replaced to?
It is an
intelligent decision to replace the entire system when a portion of
that system fails simply because these systems are designed to work
joined together to give you the most efficiency and the highest SEER
rating. Replacing the entire system also ensures you will not have
any more problems with the older system you would likely need to
replace soon anyway.
